Furano Ski Resort Guide 2026: A Complete Tour of Hokkaido’s Powder Paradise

Why Choose Furano Ski Resort
Furano Ski Resort sits in the middle of inland Hokkaido, away from coastal moisture, with dry, fluffy snow that skiers nickname a “Japow”-class powder paradise.
It was once named among Japan’s top ten ski resorts and is a filming location of the classic Japanese drama From Northern Country (Kita no Kuni Kara). With clearer skies than coastal resorts, it suits beginners and veteran skiers alike.

2026-2027 Season Opening Dates and Hours
The 2026-2027 season is scheduled to open on Saturday, November 28, 2026 and run until May 5, 2027. The Furano Zone moves to its spring skiing period from March 23, while the Kitanomine Zone is expected to open in late December and operate until March 22.
Daytime hours are 8:30 to 16:00 (or sunset), and the spring skiing period runs 9:00 to 16:00. Night skiing starts in mid-December, 16:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, extended to 19:30 over the year-end and New Year holidays, on weekends and on public holidays.
Comparing the Two Resort Zones: Furano Zone and Kitanomine Zone
Furano Ski Resort has 28 runs and 11 lifts, divided into two zones, the “Furano Zone” and the “Kitanomine Zone”. Lift tickets are valid in both and the summit runs connect, so you can switch freely.
The Furano Zone has wide, gentle runs and a large high-speed gondola that carries 101 people, which suits beginners and families. The Kitanomine Zone has more varied terrain and a higher share of black runs, and is close to the town’s restaurants and guesthouses, which suits intermediate and advanced skiers and those who like nightlife.

From New Chitose Airport you can take a ski resort shuttle bus that must be reserved in advance (see the Klook product below). From central Sapporo, take the Kosoku Furano bus straight to JR Furano Station, 7 departures a day, or take JR via Takikawa and change to reach Furano Station, listed officially at about 183 minutes.
If you are driving, you can use the resort’s free parking lots (about 2,430 spaces). From JR Furano Station, the Lavender bus takes about 17 minutes to the Shin Furano Prince Hotel.

Furano Ski Resort Facilities and Snow Activities: A Complete Guide
Furano Zone Lifts and Runs
The Furano Zone is the resort’s main entrance area. It has a large high-speed gondola that holds 101 people, the highest-capacity lift in the resort, operating 9:00 to 16:00, with relatively short waits even at peak times.
The runs here are known for being wide and gentle, with several easy beginner runs, and the layout is very beginner-friendly. It is the main area for many ski lessons and family groups, and it also has the ski-in run that leads straight to the Shin Furano Prince Hotel.

Kitanomine Zone Lifts and Runs
The Kitanomine Zone has more rolling terrain and a clearly higher share of ungroomed black runs than the Furano Zone, with a rich variety of runs. It also has the “Premium Zone”, a hidden powder area that opens only at set times, a popular choice for advanced and upper-intermediate skiers chasing untouched snow. The Kitanomine Zone is expected to open in late December.
This zone is right next to the town of Furano, so after coming down you can walk to a district of guesthouses, izakaya and all kinds of restaurants, making it easy to enjoy local nightlife between ski sessions.
Lift Ticket Options and Child Discounts
Lift tickets are valid in both zones. For the 2026-27 season, the adult one-day ticket is priced by period: early season (Nov 28 to Dec 4) ¥7,500, regular season (Dec 5 to Mar 22) ¥9,000, and spring skiing period (Mar 23 to May 5) ¥7,500.
Besides the one-day ticket, there is a 4-hour ticket (adult ¥8,200) and a night ticket (weekdays ¥3,100, weekends and public holidays ¥3,900). Children of elementary school age or younger ride the lifts free but need to collect a free ticket at the ticket window. Prices are adjusted each season, so please check the official website.
Furano Ski Resort Night Skiing: Hours, Prices and Open Runs
Night skiing at Furano Ski Resort runs 16:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, extended to 19:30 over the year-end and New Year period (Dec 26 to Jan 3), on weekends and on public holidays. In the Furano Zone, night skiing runs from mid-December to March 21 and uses the Prince Romance Lift. In the Kitanomine Zone, it runs from late December to March 21 and uses the Kitanomine No. 1 high-speed lift. The adult night ticket is ¥3,100 on weekdays and ¥3,900 over the year-end and New Year period, on weekends and on public holidays.
Run Difficulty Levels and Gradients
Furano Ski Resort’s runs are graded in three colors, green, blue and black. Beginner runs are gentle and good for practicing turns and stopping, intermediate runs have some undulation and a sense of speed with a steepest gradient of about 31 degrees, and the advanced runs in the Kitanomine Zone are the most challenging terrain, with a steepest gradient of 34 degrees and a higher share of ungroomed snow, where veterans test themselves.

The two zones have about 28 runs in total, linked by 11 lifts, so you can plan a route that steps up from beginner to advanced. Beginners can start on the green runs in the Furano Zone and, once they have built confidence, try the ungroomed black runs in the Kitanomine Zone.
Furano Ski Schools and Chinese-Speaking Instructor Lessons
Around the resort are the Furano Ski Training School and the Furano International Snow Activity Training School, which offer lessons in Japanese and English respectively. They have complete teaching systems and instructors, and suit travelers who want to build solid fundamentals step by step.
For Chinese speakers, the SNOWLAND ski school has Chinese-speaking instructors and can arrange private lessons one-on-one or one-to-many, with 3-hour and 6-hour packages available. Fees include instruction insurance but not lift passes or equipment rental. We recommend booking a time slot online before you leave.
