Free Hono Hanabi Viewing Spots vs. Paid Seats: How to Choose

The Tenjin Matsuri Hono Hanabi is launched mainly along the Okawa River, from Sakuranomiya Park to Kawasaki Park. The official plan has 6 paid viewing areas along the riverbank, including the “Fureai no Mizube” venue, the Sakuranomiya venue, the circular plaza venue, the east side of Senpukan and the venue across from the Mint Bureau. Ticket prices vary by seat class and view, and they suit visitors who want to sit comfortably and avoid the crowds.

If you want to watch for free, look around Miyakojima Bridge, the boardwalk in front of OAP (Osaka Business Park), near Kawasaki Bridge (across from the Mint Bureau), the north side of Kema Sakuranomiya Park and around Genpachi Bridge. These spots are relatively less crowded and have a fairly open view, and they are hidden-gem choices recommended by locals. For transport, we recommend taking the JR Osaka Loop Line to Sakuranomiya Station, then walking south along Sakuranomiya Park for about 2 minutes to reach the area around the venue; you can also walk about 5 minutes from Temmabashi Station on the Keihan Railway or the Osaka Metro.
