Whether you come for food, shopping or sightseeing, there is always a pleasant surprise. Here are the must-see sights in Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi, so you do not miss a single highlight of your trip.
Glico Sign

The Glico sign is one of Dotonbori’s symbols. This giant neon billboard at the south end of Ebisu Bridge has become a landmark of Osaka. It was first installed in 1935 and has been redesigned several times since, but its friendly image still resonates with people.
The Glico Running Man on the sign is full of energy and gives a sense of motion. Day or night, it is a popular photo spot. We recommend coming at dusk or in the evening, when the glittering lights are at their best.
Around the Glico sign there are plenty of food and shopping options, making it a must-visit for travelers. We suggest staying about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Visiting the Glico Dotonbori Store

The Glico Dotonbori store (Guriko-ya) is on the 1st floor of the Nakaza Kuidaore Building at 1-7-21 Dotonbori, a short walk from the Glico sign. It sells Glico-related goods and stationery with retro-packaging designs.
The area around the shop is also a popular photo spot.
It is open from 10:00 to 22:00. Because it is a popular photo stop, we recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds.

Aizuya (会津屋), founded in 1933, is widely recognized as the birthplace shop of takoyaki. Its signature “original takoyaki” is seasoned with dashi and served without sauce, so you taste the batter and octopus as they are. There is a branch in the Namba underground mall “Nan Nan Town,” about a 10-minute walk from Dotonbori.
- 🐙 Must-order: Original takoyaki, seasoned with dashi and served without sauce, pure and unadorned.

Kushikatsu Daruma Dotonbori Store
Kushikatsu Daruma is a leading Osaka kushikatsu restaurant, and its comical Daruma doll signboard at the door stands out in Dotonbori. The most important dining rule inside is “no double dipping” (nidozuke kinshi): a skewer that has been dipped in the sauce once must not be dipped again, which first-timers should know before eating.
The menu runs from basic pork, beef and lotus root to seasonal ingredients, and suits a group of friends ordering many flavors to share.
Kani Doraku Dotonbori Main Store
The giant moving crab signboard at the entrance of Kani Doraku Dotonbori Main Store is one of Dotonbori’s most famous photo landmarks, almost as famous as the Glico Running Man. Inside, you can eat crab in many ways, including crab kaiseki, crab sushi and crab hot pot, with prices from affordable set meals to high-end kaiseki. Hours are 11:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:00).
Ichiran Ramen Dotonbori Store
Ichiran is one of the tonkotsu ramen chains most familiar to overseas travelers. The Dotonbori store is open 24 hours and uses individual seating. When ordering you can adjust details such as broth richness, spice level, garlic amount and scallions to your taste, which suits travelers who dislike queues or want a quiet meal alone. You may still need to wait at peak meal times (midday and late night). There is also a Dotonbori annex nearby, likewise open 24 hours all year round.
Rikuro Ojisan no Mise (Cheesecake)
Rikuro Ojisan no Mise is a famous Osaka shop for freshly baked cheesecake souvenirs. The Namba Main Store is near Namba Station. Its signature cheesecake is made with cream cheese imported from Denmark, fresh milk, butter, eggs and house-made raisins, giving a moist, fluffy texture. It is one of the Osaka souvenirs many travelers buy before heading home, and there is often a queue for a fresh bake. The Namba Main Store is inside Ebisubashi-suji Shopping Street, and its 1st-floor shop is open 9:00 to 20:00.
